ASCII-art plug-in

Postby pixelhaufen » Sat Aug 22, 2009 1:39 pm

Because I couldn't find an ASCII-art plug-in for Photoshop  I had to write it. However maybe someone else also wants to use it so I decided to share it with the world as freeware.

download, tutorials, etc. http://en.photoshopfilter.ascii-art.at/

Now I really want some serious feedback from experts and users.

some examples:

Needs Tweaking

Postby Roo » Sat Aug 22, 2009 9:46 pm

The font size is way too large to really be effective. Such large charecters fails to bring out the details in the image.

The help file being only in German is well....no help at all.

This could be a nice plugin, but in my opinion needs tweaking.

First of all thank you!

English help file:  yes! - how could I forget adding this?

font size: I'll put it on my list to think about.
at the moment i have some points against it
1. I need some space for the letters to keep them readable. 9 x 9 pixels seemed to be a minimum.
2. I think the idea of ascii-art is reducing (= less details)
3. If you don't want to loose details you can make the picture 10 times bigger before you use the plugin

it wasn't easy (with some characters) but most of them look readable. the mac-version supports smaller characters:
