How did I create this?

Hello,

I created the image linked to below maybe ten or more years ago, but I can't remember what I used to do so.

I thought it may have been Dragonfly's Sinedots plugin, and there appears to be an element of a sine wave in there, but this result is more complex than Sinedot's output.

Was it even a plugin? Was it perhaps some stand-alone image generator?

If you can recall playing around with a plugin or some app that produced results like this and you can remember its name please let me know.

Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

I will check out some of the fractal brushes around, but I don't recall doing anything clever like painting!

I'm pretty sure it was more a case of twiddling a few sliders and hitting OK and the whole thing was done. I remember being thrilled by the minute level of detail obtained.

I can't remember whether it was a plugin or a stand-alone application.

I'm going to answer my own question...

After much browsing I found out what I must have used...

It was FraxFlame II from Kai's Power Tools (KPT), now owned and packaged by Corel as Corel KPT Collection.

I'll have to check whether it would work with modern Photoshop/PCs (Corel only mention Win XP), but it did produce lovely effects.

Thank you very much for those links.

Apophysis seems to be just what I was looking for. It produces very similar results to those of the old KPT, and works fine on my Windows 7 64bit PC.

As you know, it is not a plugin, but a stand-alone application.

Here is my first quick test image (reduced in size for this purpose).
