Quick 5-Step Example : "Wild Text"

Stage 1 : Start your photo-editing application and create a new image (whatever size is suitable for your project). Any photo-editor will do as long as it supports "layers". I've used Photoshop here. On a new layer type some text using an interesting font.

Stage 2 : Open a texture from the Mutation or Abstraction CD and resize it to suit your requirements. I've used texture number 0673 from Mutation in this example. Select this texture and copy it to clipboard. Switch back to your new image and paste it into your text selection.

Stage 3 : Make the text stand out by adding a border around the text selection. You could add bevel effects if you want but I've just gone for a simple double outline this time using Photoshop's "Stroke" command.

Stage 4 : To create even more impact try adding drop shadows and/or glow effects. I've added a small drop shadow in black plus a white glow on a seperate layer (it looks black in the example, but see below for explanation).

Stage 5 : Add a background to the image to finish off. You can choose a different texture from the CD if you wish, but I've used the same one for this image. You can now see that the glow effect inverts the colours beneath. This is because the glow layer was set to "Difference" mode.
