I use PSP5 still, and its own deform tools are pretty limited. I have Richard Rosenman's "Pinocchio" plugin; its chief limitations are that each mouse-drag-and-save-result one performs requires opening the plugin and starting over, and that its deformation area must be a circle.

Does anyone know of a freeware deformation plugin that's a bit more sophisticated? T.I.A.

Perhaps, if you can, you could get a newer version of Paint Shop Pro preferrably version 10. the deformation tool within this newer verison (since version 9) is far better than what you have in version 5. You are really denying yourself an experience as you have never known...you missed some great changes.

Cost is not a problem here, its very inexpensive, plus you get tons of tech support and more tubes/frames/masks, brushes, etc. Plus....if you want to get downright technical....version 9/10 also allow you to plug in more plug ins. Instead of loading them directly into the program - folders, you direct a path to the outside folders where you store your plug ins and use as many as you want. Believe me when I say, you are missing out on a great experience by not having version 10. Get up to speed here.

Unlike the previous poster I have PSP 10 but try to avoid using it. I'm not real tickled with PS CS either, Corel really did give them a run for their money with PSP 10; when you get the two programs side by side. I will work in them though; although I don't really care for the layout, and several other things. You can update from any previous version of PSP for about 50 dollars. I prefer to work in PSP 9 or PS 7, and loathe PSP 8 won't even touch it, deleted it within the first week I got it. But all of them from PSP 8 on up hog a lot of ram. So I wouldn't use any with less than 512 megs. I'd go to ebay and pick up a cheap psp 7 disk it has some wonderful deformation tools doesn't us a lot of ram or HD space. Plus it's still really close to PSP 5 and 6 with just some more advanced tools. I mean you won't feel lost in it. Like you would if you jumped from 5 to 10. I'd send you mine but I already gave it to my 5 year old grand-daughter and she's becoming an expert at using it, already tubing out her coloring book pages, etc...I think though she is a reincarnate of Picasso some will end up with 3 eyes, ears on the forehead, chins drug out to their knees, etc..by the time she is done cutting and pasting. Everything looks like an alien to me. Eyes are never the same color inside or out. But their beautiful to her so...hehe Anyway try a search on Google for free deformation filter plugin, there are a several and good luck

I've had PSP8 for some time, but I use v5 'cause it's simpler, stabler, and apparently has better memory management. My searching the web for deformation plugins and trying them out resulted in: Vicman's "Cartoonist" seems to be the best, but it's $20 to register it and get the all-over "unregistered version" watermark off everything you save. Trouble is that the registration "key" they sent me--a registry-key file that should just go in the registry and disable the watermark--didn't work, and I did all the appropriate things and then asked them for help.... and, getting a "We'll get back to you" response (they didn't; it's been 2 weeks), I'm trying to get a refund.

Essentially, "Cartoonist" has a nicer, bigger interface (it's a standalone) than Richard Rosenman's freeware Pinocchio plugin, but it does the same thing--both have round selection areas. Rosenman's actually may be more versatile, since it will enlarge the part of the image in selection area while Cartoonist just pulls the area; and Rosenman's selection area can be made very, very small.

Interestingly, using PSP5's "smudge" tool very carefully will achieve the same distorted effects, and its selection areas can be shaped any way you want, and the degree of "pulling" is adjustable, too. My problem (?) is that I just like using plugins. So I'm still searching...

I use PSP X regularly and can't find the deformation tool; all I can find is the warp tool. I've gone under their Help topics but am not finding anything. Can you please tell me where I can access it?

if you are still interested you can download a new version of Pinocchio form my site at www.vicanek.de. Multiple strokes are now possible.

I want to update my experience with VicMan's. Their email server (or something) wasn't working too well when I was contacting them; they were apologetic as soon as they learned of the problem and gave me a free application.

And now their Cartoonist is freeware! As I said before, great interface and very easy to use.
