Harry....

A friend and fellow FB user recommends using 'Edit>Fade>Luminance' after sharpening, including FB, to avoid sharpening the color channels. Do you agree this step is needed and/or recommended?

This step is not needed after using FocalBlade, because FocalBlade does not produce any color artifacts like Unsharp Mask does. I would also not recommend it, because it may slightly alter the sharpening effect of FocalBlade.

Without giving away any proprietary info, can you explain, at least in general terms, how you avoid any color artifacts?

The sharpening takes place in a special color space that is larger than 8bit (for 8bit images) and larger than 16bit (for 16bit images). Basically the color information is not sharpened, so there are no color artifacts possible.
