My flash assisted image has the inevitable uneven lighting making the picture too dark on the left and too light on the right. Correction at the moment of taking is impossible. So....is there a plugin filter or a PS action that can correct this ?

Try creating a b/w gradient, which has the same direction but antagonistic gradiation, on a sperate layer. Then experiment with the blending options until you achieve a satisfying result.
