Is there a file "viewer" that will allow me to see "thumbnails" of *.shv files from my desktop computer?

Is this what you're talking about? It seems to be very specialized, and I doubt that you'll find any third party readers. If you can get them on screen with the original software, just doing a screen capture is probably your best bet.
