Fading the opacity of an image so you can see through it.

Use layers and lower the opacity (you can find the opacity slider on the layer palette/tab).

Thank you for your reply. But I am in Photoshop now & don't see anything in the layers palette with a slider. Where is it? I clicked on the little arrow that has all the options & also looked on the bottom.

On your main toolbar up top:
Layer>>Layer Style>>Blending Options
